The matte-gray Schoeps Desert Island Stereo Set with MK 5 Capsules is a versatile microphone kit designed for capturing high-quality stereo recordings in various settings. It includes two CMC 1U miniature Colette microphone preamps, two MK 5 omni/cardioid matched capsules (with their matching certificate), and two SG20 stand clamps, all neatly packaged in an ultracompact Peli hard case for protection. This portability and rugged build make the set ideal for field-recording applications.
Nearly an all-purpose capsule recommended for those starting out with the Colette Series, the MK 5 is a true, one-diaphragm system with mechanical switching between omnidirectional and cardioid patterns. The result in each setting is like an independent microphone capsule with the same quality as the MK 2S / MK 4, and very similar (though not identical) frequency- and polar-response characteristics.
The matte gray Schoeps CMC 1 U is a miniature Colette Series microphone amplifier offering uncompromising high fidelity in a lightweight and ultracompact form factor for studio recording, broadcast, and live stage applications. Presented as an alternative to the renowned Schoeps CMC 6 amplifier, the CMC 1 U is compatible with all existing MK mic capsules and Colette active accessories (all available separately).
It features a balanced XLR output, compliance with 12 or 48V phantom power, and low current consumption. Its Schoeps RFI Shield provides high immunity from RF interference for a clean, low-noise signal. The CMC 1 U supports the high maximum SPLs tolerated by the various MK mic capsules (available separately).
- Complete alternative to the renowned CMC 6 amplifier
- Can be used in place of the CMC 6 with no compromise
- XLR output connector
- Electrical characteristics of the CMC 1 U are equal to, or even better than, those of the CMC 6
- 1.4″ long (about a third the size of the CMC 6)
- 1.3 ounces (about 40% lighter than the CMC 6)
- Fully compatible with all existing MK capsules and Colette active accessories such as the CUT 60 and RC tubes
- Very high immunity from RF interference with the Schoeps RFI Shield
- Includes mic clip for easy attachment to a mic stand
- Suspension mounts such as the Rycote INV-6 are available separately
The matte gray MK 5 Microphone Capsule from Schoeps comes as a matched pair, and offers 2 selectable directional patterns, but uses only a single membrane, a no-compromise approach. The fact that full response is maintained to the high audible frequencies is unusual for a switchable-pattern microphone.
In its omnidirectional setting, this MK 5 Microphone Capsule is a true pressure transducer with smooth, extended low-frequency response, low sensitivity to most wind and breath noise, handling noise or mechanical vibration, and no proximity effect. This capsule has a cardioid setting that retains its full directionality even at very low frequencies. The benefits of this design are in its purity and clarity of sound which is immediately audible. This capsule has a slight high-frequency emphasis.
The MK 5 Microphone Capsule is nearly an all-purpose capsule. It is recommended for those starting out with the Colette series.
The pattern selector should be definitely set to one position or the other; in-between settings will yield undefined results.
The Schoeps SG20 Microphone Stand Adapter is designed to stand mount microphones measuring 20mm or 21mm in diameter. The SG20 features a strong metal housing and a durable plastic clamp. Its base is threaded for 5/8″-27 stands, and a threaded adapter is included to accommodate 3/8″ and 1/2″ mounting. The angle is continuously variable.
